India Ready to Discuss Intellectual Property Rights Norms with US

Indian Commerce and Industry Minister Anand Sharma told the press that the country is ready to discuss IP rights norms with the US, rejecting allegations of breaching international agreements.

“If they (the US) want a discussion in the World Trade Organization, we are more than ready because we are not in any breach. We are very clear,” Press Trust of India cited Sharma saying when replying to a question regarding allegations of India's IPR norms discriminate against American companies, particularly in the pharmaceutical sector.

The minister added that the US should keep Indian authorities informed if they have any issues. He had expressed the same thought to Margaret Hamburg, commissioner of the US Food and Drug Administration (USFDA), at their meeting last month.

The USFDA had banned drug imports from Sun Pharma’s Karkhadi facility in Gujarat for violation of manufacturing norms.
