Matthew Ma joins Merits & Tree in Beijing as IP partner

Matthew Ma has joined Merits & Tree as a partner in Beijing. Prior to joining Merits & Tree, Ma worked at Zhong Lun Law Firm, Global Law Office, Hengdu Law Firm and other firms. He brings experience in TMT, pharmaceuticals and health care and is noted for his work solving complex legal issues for clients. He regularly assists multinational companies with the legal aspects of their IP protection and commercial transactions and litigations, including representing clients in commercial dispute resolution, designing enforcement strategies for protection of their IP, providing strategic consultation on their business in China. He also handles IP due diligence for various clients in both domestic and cross-border transactions. He has represented a number of Global 500 companies.

Among his recent work, Ma has:

Advised a U.S. sports association in licensing transaction related to establishment of small theme parks and gyms in various cities;
Advised a Chinese movie studio in investment of the Journey to the West film series;
Advised a leading seed company in its licensing of hybrid inbreds to local breeders; and
Advised Element Fresh on strengthening its Chinese IP portfolio and developing IP enforcement strategies.
