Indonesia, U.S. partner to boost global IP protection for creative industries

Indonesia’s Creative Economy Ministry and the U.S. Embassy have launched a joint initiative to bolster intellectual property protection for Indonesia’s creative works on a global stage. The collaboration kicked off last September 18, 2025, with a workshop titled “Protecting IP Internationally: What Indonesian Creatives Should Know.”

Creative Economy Minister Teuku Riefky called the partnership a “strategic step” toward building a robust IP ecosystem. The event brought together 30 creators, regulators and legal consultants to exchange insights on advancing Indonesia’s creative economy.

Echoing this sentiment, Jason P. Rebholz, minister counsellor for public diplomacy at the U.S. Embassy, emphasized that “creative ideas can only thrive globally when protected by transparent and reliable IP systems.” He noted that strong IP enforcement encourages innovation and job creation by giving creators the confidence to invest in new ideas.

This workshop is the first in a series of planned events, including public discussions and talk shows, aimed at enhancing Indonesia’s global creative presence.
