Indonesia, Denmark review IP cooperation

Indonesia and Denmark are strengthening their partnership in intellectual property, with representatives from both countries recently convening to review ongoing initiatives.

In a recent statement, Indonesia’s Directorate General of Intellectual Property (DJKI) and the Danish Patent and Trademark Office (DKPTO) outlined key programs implemented in 2024. These include training for law enforcement, capacity-building initiatives for IP examiners, and workshops on leveraging and commercializing intellectual property.

“This collaboration is not only important for DJKI but also for all stakeholders in intellectual property in Indonesia,” said Yasmon, director of cooperation, empowerment and education at DJKI, during the meeting.

He noted that these initiatives have been in place since September 2024 and proposed three key areas of cooperation for the coming year. The first focuses on developing human resources for IP examiners, particularly in patents, trademarks, and industrial designs. The second involves knowledge-sharing and policy discussions on Indonesia’s National Intellectual Property Strategy. The third aims to strengthen enforcement through digital piracy training for Indonesia’s IP operations task force.

Yasmon stressed the importance of refining the National Intellectual Property Strategy, as his team is responsible for shaping and implementing the framework.

Meanwhile, DJKI secretary Andrieansyah introduced additional proposals centred on digital innovation, particularly artificial intelligence (AI). “We hope that DKPTO can share its experiences with AI, including its applications in public services and other areas in Denmark,” he said.

Through this collaboration, Indonesia aims to fortify its intellectual property system and enhance its capacity to address global challenges, he added.
