O’Melveny & Myers Plans To Open Office In Seoul

O’Melveny & Myers is the latest US-based full-service law firm to announce plans today to open an office in Seoul. The firm, which has existing relationships with high-profile Korean companies including Asiana
Airlines, Samsung and SK, has filed an application with the Korean Ministry of Justice.

Leading Korea practitioners Sungyong Kang and Jinwon Park recently joined the firm and will be resident in the new office upon receipt of government approval. “Jinwon and I are excited to join O’Melveny and
its global team,” Kang said. “We are glad to join a firm with deep strength in areas that are important to Korean companies, such as IP litigation, antitrust, and M&A.”

Other lawyers who will spend significant time in Seoul include Kenneth O’Rourke, who heads up O’Melveny’s Los Angeles litigation practice and is a member of the IP& T and antitrust and competition practices; George Riley, a San Francisco-based litigator with extensive intellectual property and trade secrets experience; Ian Simmons, a Washington-based partner whose antitrust and competition practice emphasizes matters involving intellectual property; and Ryan Yagura, a Los Angeles-based IP litigator.

Seoul will be O’Melveny’s seventh Asia office, along with locations in Shanghai, Hong Kong, Beijing, Singapore, Tokyo, and Jakarta (in an association with Indonesian law firm Tumbuan & Partners).
