IPOPHL Teams Up with ALS In Creating More IP Professionals

The Intellectual Property Office of the Philippines (IPOPHL) has teamed up with the Ateneo de Manila University School of Law (ALS) to create more intellectual property (IP) professionals through the latter's Master of Laws (LLM) on IP, which is being marketed as a world-class program for learning the IP legal landscape.
On May 28, 2021, IPOPHL Director General Rowel S. Barba and ALS Dean Jose Maria G. Hofilea signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) establishing the cooperation.
At the virtual signing, Barba stated, "We all know that ALS not only provides students with the resources and opportunities to reach their full potential and widen their perspectives, but it also encourages them to do so. But, more importantly, the institution is successful in challenging the next generation to achieve societal progress."
"That is why it is such an honor to join hands with the ALS today and obtain its commitment to assist IPOPHL in fulfilling its goal of promoting IP as a vehicle for technical advancement and economic success," the IPOPHL director stated.
Under the terms of the MOU, the two parties will work together to ensure that ALS' LLM-IP program and other relevant professional programs maintain an international standard of knowledge and skills relevant to global and local IP laws and trends, resulting in more IP practitioners with high-level skills.
IPOPHL will help ALS get its LLM-IP program approved by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) Academy.
The WIPO Academy's endorsement will assist ALS recruit more aspiring IP professionals from throughout the world. IPOPHL will also promote ALS' LLM-IP program among its own government, academic, and professional partners. The Office will also look at upskilling its people.
The ALS, for its part, will encourage its students to intern at IPOPHL, promote IP as a significant issue for research projects, including thesis papers, support and promote IPOPHL's learning, training, and research activities, and promote IPOPHL as a significant partner in the LLM-IP program.
ALS will also look into offering aid and support in the form of scholarships or grants.
