His Excellency Abdulrahman Hassan Al Muaini, assistant undersecretary for the Ministry of Economy’s intellectual property rights sector in the United Arab Emirates, has said that the Ministry of Economy (MoEc) is eager to improve collaboration with its allies in the public and private sectors at the local, regional and international levels to create an integrated protection environment for various IP applications that complies with international best practices.
This is in accordance with MoEc’s strategic goals to improve leadership, competitiveness and innovation in the UAE and the vision for the next 50 years, including preserving authors and contiguous rights, and intellectual works in all sectors of literature, arts and sciences.
In his opening speech at the 11th Intellectual Property Technical Committee meeting held by the Intellectual Property and Competitiveness Department of the League of Arab States in Cairo, Egypt, he emphasized the efforts made by the UAE to create regulations managing the IP industry. Three laws that govern and safeguard industrial property rights, trademarks, copyright and adjacent rights were modified in this respect. This improved the environment for IP in the UAE, boosted innovation, research and development there, and gave trademarks, authors and creators integrated protection, opened doors to innovative projects from around the globe, and promoted investment in new economy sectors.
