Blackmore also leads firm’s IT & Privacy practice in Hong Kong.

Nicholas Blackmore has been promoted to partner at Kennedys in Melbourne, where his practice covers data privacy, cyber insurance, general commercial and corporate, and technology. He is also practice group leader of the Kennedys IT & Privacy practice in Hong Kong, where he advises clients on data privacy, cyber risk, technology and intellectual property. His clients in Hong Kong include the Hong Kong Hospital Authority, AIG Hong Kong and Bupa Asia.

Prior to joining Kennedys, Blackmore was general counsel and company secretary at MCM Entertainment, an Australian media production company which produced iconic radio and television programmes such as Live at the Chapel and Take 40 Australia.

Blackmore has two decades’ experience advising on all aspects of data privacy law in Australia and Hong Kong, including conducting data privacy compliance audits, preparing notices and policies, advising on direct marketing practices, and responding to complaints and access requests. Since the introduction of the GDPR in Europe, Blackmore has also done a lot of work assisting Asian businesses to understand their GDPR obligations.

He also leads Kennedys’ Asia-Pacific cyber risk group and was part of the team which established Kennedys’ cyber incident response service, Krisis. He has prepared and advised on cyber insurance wordings for several major insurers and regularly provides coverage advice and incident response services for insurers throughout Asia-Pacific. The latter involves advising insureds on their data breach notification obligations and assisting with the notification process.

Blackmore was one of six lawyers in Australia promoted by the firm, and one of 22 promoted across the firm’s global offices.
