Geoff McGrath has been promoted to partner at Ashurst in Sydney. He was one of 25 lawyers promoted to partner at the firm effective May 1, 2023.
McGrath specializes in privacy, data and cyber matters, as well as technology transactions and telecommunications. He advises clients in Australia and other countries on major cyber incidents, privacy investigations, data breach notifications and regulatory engagement. He also advises on all aspects of technology contracting, software, cloud services, the procurement and outsourcing of technology and digital transformation.
He has substantial experience working on privacy, data and technology matters for digital platforms, and in the energy, telecommunications and financial services sectors, as well as tech startups. He also acts for both Australian state and commonwealth government departments. He is sought after for his expertise in data and energy-tech matters, including smart metering, electric vehicles and home solar and batteries, and provides advice on new and emerging data regulations such as the consumer data right, privacy reforms, data breach notifications and security of critical infrastructure.
