IPOPHL unveils Madrid e-Filing system
06 August 2024
The Madrid e-Filing system, which the Intellectual Property Office of the Philippines (IPOPHL) recently unveiled, is expected to give local companies more worldwide exposure, cost savings, and streamlined operations.
The World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) created the state-of-the-art Madrid e-submission system to expedite the submission of international trademark applications under the Madrid System. Through a single, user-friendly interface, applicants may electronically submit applications, track their progress and manage trademark portfolios across various nations thanks to this unique solution, which streamlines the application process.
It has two main modules: the Office of Origin Module, which allows IP offices to manage files, and the Applicant Filing Module, which streamlines application procedures. These modules enable stakeholders to swiftly respond to any irregularity notices issued by WIPO, as well as file trademark applications online and contact directly with their Office of Origin.
The software facilitates a smooth and paperless procedure by automatically inputting vital mark information from national registers, hence increasing efficiency. Strong features provided by WIPO to support the system include user authentication, translation services and ongoing technical support.
With its sophisticated features, Madrid e-Filing guarantees a quick and correct filing procedure. These features include the import of verified IP office data, integrated categorization and translation tools, a strong payment platform, and in-app administration of irregularity letters.
Every national and regional IP office can use these tools for free.
Director General Rowel S. Barba of IPOPHL said: “The Madrid e-Filing system offers significant benefits to the Philippines and its stakeholders, including a simplified application process that lowers costs and complexity, enhanced global reach that allows businesses to protect trademarks in multiple countries with one application, support for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) to expand internationally through a user-friendly interface, and integration with IPOPHL to harmonize with global standards.”
