Singapore retains top spot as patent filings improve

The recent release of the latest Global Innovation Index shows how Singapore has remained at the top spot to become Asia-Pacific’s most innovative nation and the eighth in the world. This is due to its indicators such as government effectiveness, operational, and political stability, tertiary education - and IP-related output indicators that make patent filing and protection easier.

In a news release, Rena Lee, Chief Executive, Intellectual Property Office of Singapore, said that “IPOS digital efforts, which are part of the national digital transformation road map, have been accelerated by Covid-19 and continue to bolster our position as an innovation hub.”

Lee added that aside from going fully digital for all its applications since 2014, IPOS has improved its mobile application for trademark applications and has also conducted IP dispute hearings virtually, and other ways to reach out to its clients and improve its services.

“IPOS is continuously innovating to give enterprises a business edge during the pandemic where time is of the essence,” she said in a news article.
