Bangladesh’s IP Experts 2024

Bangladesh has made great strides in its economy, and per capita income in the country has increased both at the individual and collective level. In a pattern seen previously across South Asia, as the country’s populace has become relatively more wealthy, the importance of intellectual property, including brands and trademarks, has grown alongside.
Meanwhile, the government has been working to increase its commitment to creating an environment conducive for intellectual property growth. “We are dedicated to addressing challenges like Intellectual Property Rights Protection to ensure the realization of our goal of emerging as a developed country,” Senior Secretary of the Ministry of Industries Zakia Sultana told a November 2023 seminar in Dhaka.
Zakia credited the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, who, she said, will be able to secure a future where intellectual assets drive economic prosperity, The Business Post reported. The efforts are part of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman’s desire to build a “Golden Bangladesh,” she said.
She also noted the prime minister’s commitment to transform the country into a “Smart Bangladesh” by 2041, the newspaper reported. “This unwavering commitment aligns seamlessly with the enduring aspirations of Bangabandhu, reflecting a dedicated pursuit of progress and prosperity for the nation,” she said.
The seminar, “IPR Protection & Practices: Driving Economic Growth in Bangladesh”, was hosted by the American Chamber of Commerce in Bangladesh (AmCham). AmCham President Syed Ershad Ahmed chaired the panel discussion.
It is against that backdrop that we bring you Bangladesh’s IP Experts, a list of 30 key intellectual property lawyers who almost certainly be involved in the future of brands in Bangladesh.
Several firms had two lawyers named to our list of IP Experts: Amir & Amir Law Associates (KM Nurul Islam and M Amir-Ul Islam), Attorneys and Associates of IP Laws (Mirza Zahiruddin Ahmed and M. Bakir Uddin), Bepary & Bepary (Md. Ariful Islam and Abu Tahla), Doulah & Doulah (A.B.M. Badrud Doulah and A.B.M. Sohailud Doulah) and GRAM IP (Jafar Hasan and Farida Yasmin). In total, lawyers representing 25 different firms made the list.
Most of the lawyers named to our list have multiple practice specialties. Many of them are litigators, while others concentrate on prosecution work or provide strategic advice.

Bangladesh’s IP Experts is based solely on independent editorial research conducted by Asia IP. As part of this project, we turned to in-house counsel in Bangladesh, Asia and elsewhere and around the world, as well as South Asia-focused partners at international law firms, and asked them to nominate private-practice lawyers, including foreign legal consultants, advisers and counsel.
The final list reflects the nominations received combined with the input of the editorial team at Asia IP, which has nearly 50 years of collective experience in researching and understanding Bangladesh’s legal market.
All private practice intellectual property lawyers in Bangladesh were eligible for inclusion in the nominations process; there were no fees or any other requirements for inclusion.
The names of our 30 IP Experts are published here. Each IP Expert was given the opportunity to include their biography and contact details in print and on our website, for which a fee was charged.
