Jennifer Dean joins JWS to enhance regulatory team in TMT space

Independent Australian law firm Johnson Winter & Slattery has enhanced its technology, media and telecommunications offering with the appointment of regulatory specialist Jennifer Dean. Dean joined the firm’s Sydney office on January 31, 2022, from Corrs Chambers Westgarth.

Dean is a highly regarded competition and regulatory lawyer with a strong focus on the technology, media and telecommunications sectors. She advises clients on ACCC merger clearance processes, responses to ACCC inquiries and investigations, anti-competitive conduct issues, cartel matters, joint ventures, consumer law issues and regulated access to infrastructure and services.

“Jennifer is a very talented lawyer, who has built a strong reputation for her specialist expertise in regulatory issues impacting the technology, media and telecommunications sectors,” said managing partner Jeremy Davis. “We have an extremely strong regulatory practice and are especially known for our work advising on high profile competition clearances and investigations arising out of the Hayne Royal Commission. Jennifer’s appointment will see us deepen our regulatory expertise in the TMT sector.”

Dean’s experience includes advising global technology and media companies in relation to Australian merger clearance of global deals; affected stakeholders on the legislative process for, and implementation of, the mandatory news media bargaining code; major telecommunications carriers on infrastructure sharing arrangements; and digital platforms and data businesses in relation to various ACCC inquiries including the Digital Platforms Inquiry and Loyalty Programs Inquiry.
