IPO, SME Group Promote IP Rights Awareness

Pakistan’s Intellectual Property Organization and SME Business Support Fund (BSF) have signed an agreement which will promote protection of intellectual property rights among small and medium enterprises. The agreement was signed by IPO Pakistan chairman Hameed Ullah Jan Afridi and BSF chief executive officer Syed Saquib Moyuddin.

Afridi said the IPO has worked to establish ties with trade and commerce organizations, and has created facilitation desks at organizations including chambers of commerce and industry and the Small and Medium Enterprises Development Authority to provide information about registration of IP rights.

Afridi also said that, in accordance with its international obligations, Pakistan was committed to providing a good atmosphere for the protection of registered brands. Mohyuddin said that SMEs comprise 90% of Pakistan’s business sector and are the backbone of the country’s economy.
