Akash Chittranshi Died Suddenly On October 16 At 40

Akash Chittranshi, founder of IP boutique law firm Akash Chittranshi & Associates (aca-law) in New Delhi, died suddenly on October 16 at the age of 40. Chittranshi established his own law firm in 2001 when he took on the Publishers Association as its Indian legal counsel. He had previously worked for Anand & Anand and Rouse & Co.

Chittranshi had been behind a string of high-profile anti-piracy operations in India for the association. In a statement, the association said: “We are all terribly shocked by this news and will miss him dreadfully. For many years he gave us sage advice on the intricacies of IP protection in India but most importantly he gave us his cheerful good humour and vibrant personality.”

Most recently, Chittranshi received global recognition for his work for JK Rowling in relation to her Harry Potter books. In March 2007, he helped Rowling obtain an injunction against eBay after pirate versions of her books were listed for sale on the Indian version of the website, and in September of the same year he prevented an Indian publisher from selling a fake version of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.
