Raphael Tay joins LAW Partnership as head of corporate and commercial

LAW Partnership in Kuala Lumpur has announced the next phase of its growth strategy; Raphael Tay has joined the firm in a newly created role as head of corporate and commercial. He was previously a partner at Lee Hishamuddin Allen & Gledill in Kuala Lumpur.

For more than three decades, Tay has advised Malaysian, regional and international organizations on challenging and complex transactions. His move to LAW Partnership marks a key stage in the evolution of the firm’s strategy, says Brian Law, managing partner at the firm.

It also demonstrates the value that LAW Partnership places on “client listening,” a recent development in client relationship management.

LAW Partnership was founded as an IP & Tech and litigation firm that advised a select group of Malaysian and international clients. The decision to move to a full-service model, with the establishment of a corporate and commercial team, was largely driven by clients’ demand both locally and internationally, Law said.

“I am pleased to announce Raphael’s appointment,” Law said. "All of our partners and associateshave benefitted from working on international transactions and disputes, and this will be further strengthened through Raphael’s experience in advising on strategic acquisitions, disposals and technology deals.”

Tay said: “I am proud to join the ambitious and progressive team at LAW Partnership and I look forward to leading the new corporate and commercial practice. The firm’s association with Eversheds Sutherland is particularly important for my clients, who need a Malaysian firm with strong ties to an international firm with a global footprint."

“I congratulate Raphael and Brian on this appointment,” said Stephen Kitts, managing partner, Asia, Eversheds Sutherland. “LAW Partnership is an important member of ESAPA, the Eversheds Sutherland Asia Pacific Alliance. This group brings together leading firms in Asia-Pacific under the Eversheds Sutherland umbrella so clients receive the same levels of service and support in over 40 jurisdictions across the region.”
