David Rountree named partner at Allens in Sydney

David Rountree was one of a dozen lawyers at Allens promoted to the firm’s partnership, effective July 1, 2022.

Rountree, who is based in Sydney, is a technology, media and telecommunications lawyer who has significant experience in major technology and outsourcing procurement deals for both government and corporate clients, including for design the payments industry, advising on acquisitions, including technology and transition arrangements, commercial deals for media and technology and regulatory and corporate governance work. He is a leader in Allens multidisciplinary blockchain and distributed ledger practice. He was a primary author of Allens’ Blockchain Reaction Report, and is involved with industry groups such as Fintech Australia in considering distributed ledger legal and policy issues.

He has advised both emerging and established companies seeking to leverage blockchain and distributed ledger technology within their business, including in relation to undertaking blockchain based token sales, fundraising and financing (ICOs). He is also a leading adviser to Allens Accelerate, the Allens practice dedicated to advising startups, investors, and corporates and government agencies responding to disruption and investing in innovation.

In addition, Rountree has significant experience in data governance and privacy, and IT, outsourcing and procurement deals for both government and corporate clients, including assisting clients with implementing major technology transformations and developments and advising on appropriate data protection and compliance.

The promotions, which include lawyers in the private capital, ESG, energy transition, infrastructure and technology & data sectors, will bring the percentage of female partners to just over 37 percent, exceeding the firm’s gender target set in 2017 of at least 35 percent female partner representation in 2022. The firm has set a new target of at least 40 percent female partner representation in 2025, under its 40:40:20 aim: 40 percent women, 40 percent men and 20 percent any gender (women, men or non-binary persons).
