Noida-based Anand and Anand has secured well-known status for 11 marks belonging to various leading Indian and international companies – all on the same day. These marks, all of which have been entered in the register of well-known marks maintained by the Trade Marks Registry, includes the marks ‘Abbott’ of US-based pharma giant Abbott Laboratories, ‘Nykaa’ of the e-commerce platform and ‘Jockey’ of comfort apparel manufacturer Jockey International. Also on the list are marks belonging to various companies of the Tata Group such as the Tata Logo, ‘Vivanta’ of the Indian Hotels Company, ‘Titan’ of Titan Company Limited and ‘Tanishq’, the Tata-owned jewellery brand.
Japanese multinational Bridgestone Corporation also had its mark ‘Bridgestone’ declared well-known. Another reputed Indian brand is ‘Fortune’, belonging to Adani Wilmar Limited, which was also included in the list.
“A well-known trademark is a recognition between fame, the legal ability to enforce, exclusivity and a tool that enables the management to exploit potential areas knowing the high level of association of the trademark and in the process has a cascading effect in enhancing the status,” said Safir Anand, senior partner and head of trademarks, contractual and commercial IP at the firm. “It is prestigious for a company to have a well-known trademark declaration as the process goes through a stringent scrutiny of evidence on the Trademarks Register.”
