Sri Lankan entrepreneur secures UK trademark for pest-management framework

Sri Lankan entrepreneur Denham Marlon Ferreira has secured United Kingdom trademark registration for PACCP-X, a pest-management framework applied in Sri Lanka’s food and hospitality sectors, marking a step toward protecting the brand as it explores international market opportunities.

The registration provides a basis for protecting the PACCP-X identity in the UK, while expansion into other markets will also depend on the framework’s implementation and licensing agreements.

The UK Intellectual Property Office (UK IPO) registered the PACCP-X figurative mark under Registration No. UK00004413460. Ferreira, founder and managing director of Exterminators PLC, holds the registration personally, which covers pest control and termite control services.

The registration provides trademark protection for the mark in the United Kingdom within its registered scope. However, registration protects the brand; it does not independently establish the effectiveness of the pest-management framework itself. It also places intellectual property protection within Ferreira’s broader efforts to develop PACCP-X as a framework that can be implemented through training, operational support and licensing arrangements in eligible markets.

In Sri Lanka, PACCP-X is applied through PESTMAC 3G in the food industry and HotelGuard 360™ in the hospitality sector. The programmes use risk assessment, monitoring, targeted treatments and digital reporting to help businesses identify pest-related vulnerabilities and strengthen preventive controls.

Built around the principle “Prevent. Predict. Protect,” PACCP-X covers seven areas: pest intelligence, root-cause analysis, critical containment, control optimization, preventive control points, predictive analytics and continuous learning and improvement.

The framework has also been introduced through training programmes and workshops at organizations in Sri Lanka. Participants who pass the required assessment receive PACCP-X Level 1 certificates.

Ferreira is exploring training and licensing opportunities for pest-management companies in eligible markets outside Sri Lanka, the Maldives and the UK. Subject to local brand clearance and agreed terms, these arrangements may include training, assessments, implementation resources and written authorization to use approved framework materials. The proposed arrangements would therefore extend beyond brand licensing to include support for applying the framework in practice.

The framework’s international expansion also includes PACCP-X Maldives Resorts, launched by Sentario UK Ltd. in technical collaboration with Exterminators PLC. The programme offers resorts pest-risk reporting, staff training, digital monitoring, specialist support and a Resort Readiness Review.

“Effective pest management begins with understanding risk, addressing its causes and strengthening prevention over time. PACCP-X gives teams a practical way to apply that approach,” Ferreira said.

During October 2026, the company is offering free, point-based pest-risk assessment reports to food businesses and hotels, prepared in accordance with the PACCP-X framework.
