Overview

Alex Ferdinand S. Fider is a senior partner of the Angara Abello Concepcion Regala & Cruz Law Offices (ACCRALAW). He previously headed the firm’s intellectual property department for 13 years and currently serves as the inaugural head of ACCRALAW’s corporate social responsibility department, where he oversees the firm’s social development initiatives, including its legal aid and public service programs.

Fider holds a Master of Laws (LL.M.) degree from Queen Mary and Westfield College, University of London, where he specialized in industrial and intellectual property law and information technology law. He earned his Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) from the University of the Philippines.

He advises both local and international clients on intellectual property protection, commercialization, licensing and enforcement in the Philippines. Among the organizations he has represented or advised are the EC-ASEAN Intellectual Property Cooperation Program (ECAP II), the Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO), the International Rice Research Institute (IRRI) and the University of the Philippines.
A recognized scholar in the field of intellectual property law, Fider has authored the Philippine chapters of several leading publications in the Max Planck Series on Asian Intellectual Property Law and works published by the Applied Research Centre for Intellectual Assets and the Law in Asia of the Singapore Management University.

In addition to his legal practice, he teaches intellectual property law at the University of the Philippines and De La Salle University. He is a former president and chairman of the Intellectual Property Association of the Philippines (IPAP) and remains actively involved in regional and international IP organizations. He currently serves as chairman of the APAA Academy, the continuing legal education arm of the Asian Patent Attorneys Association (APAA).
