Overview

Kherk Ying Chew heads the Intellectual Property & Technology and Dispute Resolution practice groups at Wong & Partners.  She is an acclaimed figure in the area of Intellectual Property and Technology with over 35 years of experience covering all aspects of contentious and non contentious IP and technology matters.

She assists clients in both traditional IP matters such as trademark, copyright, design, patent and trade secrets and also in technology matters including new emerging technologies and issues involving generative AI, cybersecurity and data privacy.  Kherk Ying regularly advise clients on data governance, risk and corporate compliance.  On the contentious side, Kherk Ying acts as senior counsel in many precedent setting IP case decisions and have appeared before in IP High Court and at all levels before the appeal courts.

Kherk Ying is an accredited IP Valuer by the World Trade Institute and serves as one of the panellists appointed by the Kuala Lumpur Centre for Arbitration (KLRCA) to specifically handle disputes for the Malaysian Domain Name Dispute Resolution Policy (MYDRP) service and is on KLRCA's Panel of Uniform Rapid Suspension (URS) Examiners, which handles quick and cost-effective takedown of websites that infringe IP rights.  She is also the author of the chapter on IT Contracts in "Bullen & Leake & Jacob's Malaysian Precedents of Pleadings"

Kherk Ying speaks regularly at international conferences on topics covering from IP, new emerging technologies, social media, data privacy, media law to cybersecurity.  She is ranked in the first tier of key practitioners in the area of IP in Malaysia and the region winning many awards and accolades.
