Indonesia seeks China’s support for treat on digital copyright governance

Indonesia is seeking China’s support for a new global treaty on digital copyright governance. Law Minister Supratman Andi Agtas presented “The Indonesian Proposal for a Legally Binding Instrument on the Governance of Copyright in the Digital Environment” during a China-ASEAN intellectual property meeting in Shaanxi.

Agtas said the goal is to create “fair, transparent and sustainable” governance for digital copyright royalties, positioning intellectual property as a key pillar of national growth under President Prabowo Subianto.

Indonesia plans to formally introduce the proposal at the World Intellectual Property Organization in Switzerland this December. Separately, Indonesia and China are set to sign a new memorandum of understanding on IP cooperation on October 27 to strengthen collaboration on patents, trademarks and industrial designs.
