Visual Artists Could Receive Resale Royalties

Visual artists in Australia may soon gain the right to a percentage of the commercial resale price each time their work is sold, according to lawyers at Deacons. The proposed legislative framework for this right, the Resale Royalty Right for Visual Artists Bill, was introduced into the House of Representatives on November 27.
Under the proposed scheme, artists will receive a royalty payment of 5% of the sale price each time their artwork is resold.
