Samsung’s Three-Cyclone Vacuum Cleaner Patents Ruled Invalid
Vacuum cleaner inventor and salesman James Dyson emerged from a British High Court hearing victorious over Korea’s Samsung Electronics, according to a report in the Wiltshire Gazette & Herald. Dyson Technology is a Wiltshire-based company with manufacturing facilities in Malaysia.

The High Court ruled that Samsung’s three-cyclone vacuum cleaner was an obvious improvement to Dyson’s two-cyclone machine and, thus, the patents covering the three-cyclone version were invalid.

“Samsung aped our patented technology and cynically claimed to have invented it,” Dyson told the newspaper. “We may not be a commercial giant like Samsung, but we will vigorously defend all the technology we have worked hard to develop and protect. It’s a win for engineers and inventors.”
