Peter Bartlett named first Australian to lead IBA’s Legal Practice Division
01 December 2020
MinterEllison partner Peter Bartlett has been appointed the first Australian Legal Practice Division chair of the International Bar Association (IBA). The Legal Practice Division covers all business-related areas of law.
The IBA is made up of over 80,000 lawyers, as well as every major law firm, law society and bar association across more than 170 countries.
Bartlett’s selection is a reflection of his ongoing work on the IBA management board, with his past roles including vice chair as well as IBA treasurer and assistant treasurer, the firm said in a statement.
“I’m humbled to take on this position at an organization that plays such an important role as the global voice of the legal profession,” Bartlett said. “Now more than ever, the legal profession has a critical part to play in helping communities across the world to deal with and recover from the economic challenges coming their way as a result of the global pandemic. I am honoured to lead the IBA’s Legal Practice Division through this important journey.”
