Japan Plans to Shorten Patent Examination Time

Japanese government is aiming at shortening the time for patent examinations to about 14 months by fiscal 2023, The Japanese Times reported.

 

The administration hopes to create the fastest and best intellectual property system in the world, the report quoted Toshimitsu Motegi, minister of Economy, Trade and Industry.

 

According to the Japan Patent Office, the average patent exam term was 29.6 months in 2012.

 

The report said such move was part of Prime Minister Shinzo Abe’s economic growth strategy, to make the country an IP leader in the world.
