IP Week@SG 2022 Returns On September 6 - 7 With In-Person Format

IP Week@SG 2022, the world's premier intellectual property event, returns with an in-person format, bringing together policymakers, heads of IP offices, IP experts and businesses to discuss the role of IP amid global challenges and the rise of game-changing technologies.

To be held from September 6 – 7, 2022 at the Marina Bay Sands Expo and Convention Centre in Singapore, IP Week@SG 2022 will feature guest of honor, Edwin Tong SC, Singapore’s minister for culture, community and youth and second minister for law. Tong will deliver the opening address. Daren Tang, director general of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), will give keynote remarks.

“Innovation has proven to be resilient with IP filings around the world and in Singapore reaching unprecedented levels in 2021, signifying the critical role of Intangible Assets (IA) and IP for businesses. IP Week @SG 2022 will help enterprises navigate an innovation-driven global economy using their IA and IP,” said Rena Lee, chief executive of the Intellectual Property Office of Singapore (IPOS).

The event will feature a Global Forum on Intellectual Property where hot topics such as IP and non-fungible tokens, cryptocurrencies and the metaverse will come under the spotlight. The role of IP in promoting innovation for sustainable and green technologies as well as IA valuation and financing will also be debated.

Notable speakers include the following: Kathi Vidal, undersecretary of commerce for intellectual property and director, United States Patent and Trademark Office; Dr. Shen Changyu, commissioner, China National Intellectual Property Administration; Koichi Hamano, commissioner, Japan Patent Office; Rowel S. Barba, director general, Intellectual Property Office of the Philippines; Etienne Sanz de Acedo, chief executive officer, International Trademark Association; Beat Weibel, chief IP counsel and group senior vice president, Siemens; Jeffrey Tiong, founder and chief executive officer of PatSnap; and Dr. André Gorius, chair of IP valuation committee, Licensing Executives Society International, among others.

Winners for the WIPO-IPOS IP for Innovation Awards 2022 will be announced during the forum. The awards recognize Singapore enterprises that have achieved outstanding growth through the successful use of their IP to innovate and transform their business.

IP Marketplace, a hub for networking, events and exhibitions, will also return this year. Highlights include lunchtime talks and opportunities to try out an IP advisor tool that matches IP services upon demand.
