Lawyers in the intellectual property sphere and related spaces were among the 25 promotions at HopgoodGanim Lawyers, effective July 1, 2023. HopgoodGanim Lawyers is a leading Australian independent legal and advisory firm operating nationally and internationally with a focus on Asia from its two key locations of Brisbane and Perth.
Aaron Alcock has been promoted to partner in the firm’s dispute resolution practice, where he has a focus on resolving disputes involving resources and energy projects, property, technology and intellectual property. His practice extends to contract disputes, trade practices actions, property disputes, leasing disputes and mortgage disputes in the Supreme, District and Magistrates Courts. Alcock is based in Brisbane.
Tim Edwards has been promoted to partner in the firm’s dispute resolution and insolvency practices. He is also head of HopgoodGanim’s digital assets practice. Based in Brisbane, he is an accredited specialist in commercial litigation who advises on all types of litigation and disputes, with a specific focus on matters involving insolvency and restructuring, distributed ledger technology (cryptocurrencies, smart contracts and NFTs) and other fintech, the enforcement of security interests, proceeds of crime matters, partnership and shareholder disputes, misleading or deceptive conduct actions, complex commercial or construction contract disputes, and novel estates matters. He routinely appears in court and at mediations.
Briar Francis has been promoted to special counsel in the firm’s intellectual property, technology and cyber security practice. Based in Brisbane, Francis has experience in both the IP and information technology fields, advising on a wide range of matters from software and intellectual property contract negotiation, due diligence and disputes; privacy and data security regulatory compliance; trademark and copyright advisory matters and disputes; international distribution and manufacture transaction advisory; trade promotion and competitions licensing; to consumer law advisory matters. She has advised a range of clientele from first-time start-ups to government organizations.
Sarah Buchanan and Tom Copley were both promoted to associate in the firm’s IP, technology and cyber security practice.
