Hogan Lovells Hires Frederick Ch’en As Of Counsel
Hogan Lovells has expanded its intellectual property team in Tokyo with the hire of Frederick Ch’en as of counsel. This follows on the recruitment of fourteen IP practitioners in Tokyo over the past 12 months, including the hire of of counsel Peter Hansen, who joined the firm in November 2012.

Ch’en is an English solicitor, a US attorney and patent attorney, a registered foreign attorney in Japan, and a UK chartered biologist. He trained and worked for seven years at a leading international law firm in London before becoming head of IP at a top-tier global law firm in Tokyo. Prior to becoming a lawyer, Ch’en was a biomedical research scientist at Oxford University. He has wide experience advising on a broad range of contentious and noncontentious IP matters, with particular focus on multi-jurisdictional patent litigation as well as IP licensing and IP aspects of transactions. He also has substantial expertise advising clients in the life sciences sector.
