Diwali Celebration Burns Counterfeiters in Effigy
27 December 2013
The November 2013 Diwali celebration at Anand and Anand in Noida included the traditional burning of the effigies of Hindu demon king Ravana, his brother Kumbkarana and his son Meghnath, but this year’s burning had a difference close to the hearts of the members of the intellectual property law firm.
This year’s burning included captions on the effigies: Kumbkaran was shown with the caption “Counterfeiter,” Ravan with the caption “Good Over Evil” and Meghnath with the caption “Bad Man.” The effigies are traditionally burned during celebrations at Diwali, a Hindu festival of lights associated with Lakshmi, the goddess of prosperity.
”This was a powerful symbol to describe the war against piracy,” says Pravin Anand, managing partner at the firm.
