In New Zeland, Dentons has announced that its partners have voted to approve a combination with Kensington Swan, a leading local law firm. The combination will position Dentons as the largest global law firm in New Zealand. The firm previously approved combinations in Australia and Papua New Guinea in the Australasia region. Since entering the region in 2016, Dentons has opened offices in all of the major Australian markets and growing attorney ranks by 25% in the past 12 months. With offices in Auckland and Wellington, the combination with Kensington Swan will give Dentons’ clients access to an additional team of 113 lawyers who can meet the needs of clients across a wide range of industries. Kensington Swan is a national, full-service commercial law firm. Dentons announced its intention to combine with three leading law firms in seven days; Kensington Swan in New Zealand, Gustavo Zacapa y Asociados in Honduras, and Lee International in South Korea. Also in 2019, Dentons’ partners have approved a combination with MawereSibanda in Zimbabwe and Dentons has launched Dentons Venezuela in Venezuela, and Dentons Larraín Rencoret in Chile.

In South Korea, Dentons partners have voted to combine with Lee International, a leading local law firm. Dentons is the first international law firm in South Korea to combine with a Korean law firm and will be the only global law firm with a Korean legal practice. Its South Korean operations will be 100% owned and controlled by Korean partners from the local community. Lee International is consistently strong in practice areas such as intellectual property, mergers and acquisitions, finance, real estate, corporate, litigation/international arbitrations, entertainment, labour and employment, TMT and biotech. The combination, subject to meeting applicable regulatory requirements, is expected to launch in the next several months.
