Dean Gerakiteys joins Baker McKenzie’s IP practice

Dean Gerakiteys has joined Baker McKenzie as a partner in its Sydney intellectual property practice. Gerakiteys joined the firm from Clayton Utz, where he was a partner in its national IP litigation team. He brings a team, comprising two senior associates, with him: Grace Griffiths and Antonia Wayne-Boyle.

Gerakiteys is a highly regarded litigator with deep experience across the full spectrum of intellectual property disputes, including trademarks, copyright, patents, confidential information, trade secrets and domain names. He has acted for major Australian and multinational clients at every stage of the litigation lifecycle, including in the High Court of Australia. His track record includes successful appearances in several landmark High Court matters.

In addition to his litigation expertise, Gerakiteys regularly advises on advertising, consumer law, and the complex regulatory framework governing the listing, marketing and supply of therapeutic goods. He has extensive experience engaging with regulators and managing large intellectual property portfolios for globally recognized brands.

Anne-Marie Allgrove, Baker McKenzie’s national managing partner in Australia, said the appointment reflects the firm’s continued investment in strengthening its IP offering across Australia and the wider Asia Pacific region.

“Dean is an exceptional litigator with a proven record of success in some of Australia’s most significant IP cases. His combination of technical excellence, commercial insight and deep industry knowledge will be of tremendous value to our clients” she said.

Gerakiteys joins Baker McKenzie after a 14-year career at Clayton Utz, where he progressed from senior lawyer to partner and served as trusted counsel to major clients in the pharmaceutical, technology, consumer goods, alcohol, education, food and beverage, and media sectors.
