Cambodia, Laos strengthen agricultural ties with mango exports

The agreement between Cambodia and Laos to increase the sale of Cambodian mango products to other countries using Laos’ high-speed rail infrastructure marks a major step towards improving agricultural commerce.

This initiative was highlighted in a meeting between Dith Tina, Cambodia’s minister of agriculture, forestry and fisheries, and his Lao counterpart, Linkham Douangsavanh, during the former’s official visit to Laos from April 30 to May 3, 2025. Through the new partnership, Cambodian agricultural products – especially mangoes – will be efficiently transported to profitable markets, such as China and beyond, using Laos’ railway infrastructure. Both countries plan to use the high-speed train to create new trade routes to help their respective agriculture industries.

In addition to mango exports, the discussions emphasized the importance of improving international agricultural cooperation for the benefit of both nations. During the tour, the Cambodian team also learned about the methods used to extract potash, which is essential for producing agricultural fertilizers, and connected with Cambodian investors interested in producing potash-based fertilizers.

This collaboration highlights Cambodia and Laos’ dedication to creating sustainable agricultural trade channels and represents a positive step towards improving food security and economic prosperity in both countries.
