Hong Kong and Mexico Sign MOU
10 February 2015
Hong Kong and Mexico recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation in the field of intellectual property.
The Director of Intellectual Property, Ada Leung, representing the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government, and the Director General of the Mexican Institute of Industrial Property, Miguel Ángel Margáin, signed the MOU on February 5, 2015.
The Permanent Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development (Commerce, Industry and Tourism), Philip Yung, and the Consul-General of the United Mexican States in Hong Kong, Alicia Buenrostro Massieu, attended the signing ceremony.
"Hong Kong and Mexico both embrace the value of protecting, promoting and commercialising IP rights in driving innovation and economic growth. Hong Kong has been actively promoting itself as a premier IP trading hub in the region," Yung said at the signing ceremony.
"The MOU to be signed today provides an excellent basis for developing the trans-Pacific bonds between Hong Kong and Mexico in the area of IP. With strong support from the governments and industry and business sectors of both places, I am confident that this collaboration would inspire more joint IP undertakings in future. The two economies will join hands to grasp the plentiful opportunities in IP trading yet to be explored," he said.
The MOU provides a framework to facilitate co-operation between Hong Kong and Mexico in the areas of IP, such as exchange of information, best practices and experience; training of personnel; promotion of IP trading and commercialisation; and joint organisation of seminars and conferences.
