Singapore Ranked the Best Asian Country for IP Protection

Singapore is the world’s second and Asia’s top country for IP protection, according to the World Economic Forum’s (WEF) latest Global Competitiveness Report.

Singapore’s ambition to be the Asian IP hub has been consistently affirmed by WEF which conducts one of the globe’s most comprehensive assessments of national competitiveness. Some 148 nations were assessed using a number of criteria, including the countries’ efforts in IP protection, where Singapore has been ranked first in Asia and second globally for three years in a row.

“We are heartened by WEF’s affirmation of Singapore’s strong IP regime in the past three years. This is in no small part due to the multiagency’s collaborative effort to enhance our IP ecosystem. This recognition will go in some ways to encourage and attract greater knowledge creation and innovation as Singapore progresses to be a knowledge-driven economy,” said Tan Yih San, chief executive of the Intellectual Property Office of Singapore.

Singapore’s business-friendly IP regime has consolidated business confidence of international conglomerates including Rolls-Royce and DHL to choose the country for longterm R&D and innovation investments.
