The 2017 merger between Harry Elias Partnership and Eversheds Sutherland will end on June 30, 2020, the firm has announced.
In 2017, Singapore-based Harry Elias Partnership and global firm Eversheds Sutherland, announced a merger. The firm, which was renamed Eversheds Harry Elias LLP, commenced operations on June 1, 2017. On July 1, 2020, the firm will revert to its original name, Harry Elias Partnership LLP.
“When we first negotiated the merger, we had included a review mechanism at the three-year mark,” said Philip Fong, the firm’s managing partner. “On this review, the management of the firm has decided that this merger is not the best option for us going forward. Nevertheless, we look forward to continued cooperation with Eversheds Sutherland, albeit in a different form, for ongoing and future local and regional projects. We remain very committed to a regional outlook and global strategy.”
Stephen Kitts, Eversheds Sutherland managing partner, Asia, added: “We have been in discussion with the senior team at legacy Harry Elias Partnership over the past few months with regards to our future strategy in Singapore. Whilst there have been many positive milestones over the past three years, both firms feel the time has come to tread a different path.”
Harry Elias Partnership was founded in 1988 by Harry Elias, SC, who is widely recognized as one of Singapore’s foremost litigation lawyers. In 2012, the firm established an associated firm, HEP Law Office in Brunei. The firm also has a close relationship with an established associated law firm in Kuala Lumpur, LAW Partnership.
