Government to Campaign for Increased Awareness of IP Rights

The Government of Malaysia will soon start a campaign to increase awareness of intellectual property rights in order to encourage inventors protect their ideas, according to a story in the Star newspaper.

Deputy Science, Technology and Innovation Minister Fadillah Yusof told reporters in Kuching that the campaign would be run as part of a national creativity and innovation festival to be held next year.

“The level of awareness on intellectual property is still low among the public,” the Star reported him as saying. “For instance, if you write a song but don’t copyright it, someone else can take it and produce it and you will not benefit. That’s why we want more people to understand how they can protect their copyright through the awareness campaign.”
