KIPO Opens Expedited Service for Trademarks

The Korean Intellectual Property Office (KIPO) has announced that, starting April 1, the expedited examination service for trademarks will be opened to accelerate the registration of trademarks.

Presently, KIPO says, it takes six to seven months for an applicant to receive primary results of a trademark examination; the expedited process cis expected to reduce that waiting time to approximately two months, providing no significant supplements are needed.

Applicants who have filed for trademarks currently in use or for planned use may apply for the expedited examination. The fee for the expedited service is W160,000 (US$123) for each product category.
