DLA Piper Named William Marshall As Of Counsel In Hong Kong

DLA Piper named international trade lawyer, William Marshall as of counsel in its Hong Kong office. Marshall joins the firm from US-based multinational apparel retailer Abercrombie & Fitch, where he was the sole in-house counsel in Asia. At Abercrombie & Fitch, Marshall was responsible for a wide range of legal matters including corporate formation, foreign direct investment, commercial agreements, regulatory compliance matters, and merchandise sourcing structure. In addition, he was responsible for international trade, customs, indirect tax and anticorruption matters worldwide. He was previously an associate at Grunfeld, Desiderio, Lebowitz, Silverman & Klestadt in New York, the largest customs and international trade boutique law firm in the US, where his practice focused primarily on the representation of respondents in trade remedy proceedings.
Anthony Tong, managing partner and a solicitor at Robin Bridge & John Liu, has been appointed as deputy chairman of Hong Kong’s copyright tribunal. The tribunal can hear and determine matters relating to licensing schemes operated by licensing bodies which cover works of more than one author, and the chairman and deputy chairman must be qualified for appointment as a district judge under the District Court Ordinance. Tong, whose practice includes IP-related litigation involving trademarks, trade names, passing off (unfair competition), copyright, registered designs, patents, breach of confidence and others, was appointed by Hong Kong chief executive Donald Tsang.
