China Wining 2014 IP Champion

The Global Intellectual Property Center (GIPC) of the US Chamber of Commerce honoured China the 2014 IP Champions for its “Operation Cloud” that focused on counterfeit activities on medicines over the internet.

The operation was led by the Economic Crime Investigation Department, Ministry of Public Security. It is the first time that a foreign government body won such award.

According to police counsellor Hu Binchen, the operation seized 300 million fake medicines and arrested 1,300 criminals. It was the first ever big seizure of fake medicines in China.

Hu, receiving the award at the second Annual IP Champions Conference in Washington DC, said “I understand the definition of IP Champions as efforts at the forefront of protecting and promoting intellectual property rights. When the ‘Operation Cloud’ is recognized with this award, we should never forget hundreds and thousands of officers at the forefront of the operations against IP crimes.”

In his remarks at the conference, Hu further noted that “as we continue to move forward, we will undoubtedly encounter differences and difficulties both at home and around the world. But as long as we keep learning from one another, supporting one another, and standing firmly together, I believe there is good reason for confidence in where our efforts will lead us from here.”
