Talpa Lodges Injunction Against Star Media China

Talpa Global B.V., the creator and owner of the format ‘The Voice of China,’ has brought legal proceedings in Hong Kong against Star China Media Limited and its affiliate, Meng Xiang Qiang Yin Cultural and Broadcast (Shanghai) Company Limited (the ‘Defendants’), as a result of their and their affiliates’ unauthorised and unlawful actions in relation to The Voice of China.

On January 22, 2016, Talpa sought an interlocutory injunction against the defendants in Hong Kong, restraining them from producing and broadcasting Series 5 of ‘The Voice of China’, given that Talpa had terminated all their existing contractual rights relating to ‘The Voice of China’ on January 8, 2016 and has not renewed their licence for another series. Therefore, the defendants no longer have any rights to produce or procure the broadcast of ‘The Voice of China.’ Talpa will shortly be taking further legal steps to enforce and protect its rights from further unauthorised use by the defendants.
