The Intellectual Property Office of the Philippines (IPOPHL) has invited attendees to attend its free creative workshops and presentations, which began earlier this week as part of the much anticipated 2nd Philippine International Copyright Summit.
The event, hosted by IPOPHL’s Bureau of Copyright and Related Rights and themed “Unlocking the Future: Tech Trends and Challenges in Copyright,” examines how legal advances related to copyright and technology, particularly artificial intelligence, are influencing the creative industries in the Philippines and abroad. Paper cutting, singing, storytelling, dance, photography, watercolour painting, and miniature art are all included in the courses.
The first day of the creative workshops began with an elaborate paper-cutting class taught by Badz Magsumbol, the well-known founder of the Paper Cutters Guild of the Philippines. Here, participants developed fundamental cutting skills and used their creativity to turn plain paper into artistic creations.
On the second day, participants learned how to create original song compositions, from creating heartfelt lyrics to creating captivating melodies, under the guidance of Rodolfo “Tito” Cayamanda Jr., vice president of the Filipino Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers. The same day, Karl Francis L. Moreno, a choreographer and professional dancer, led the dance workshop, exploring creative expression via movement, from strong choreography to flowing gestures.
In the following days, Exequiel Valerio, assistant division chief of BCRR’s Accreditation and Standards, will teach the fundamentals of photography, with a focus on framing and lighting; Mary Melody-Remorca will lead the storytelling workshop; Jennifer Lee-Bonto, executive director of Artist Welfare Project, will teach watercolour painting and cover basic techniques; and Nhoda Munoz will introduce participants to the art of miniatures.
“Whether you’re honing your talent, broadening your skill sets, or discovering a new artistic passion, these short workshops will offer an enjoyable and adventurous experience perfect for any curious creative soul,” said IPOPHL’s Bureau of Copyright and Related Rights Director Emerson G. Cuyo.
This year’s Philippine International Copyright Summit is taking place at the Novotel Manila Araneta City from October 21 to 25, 2024.
