Katherine Wang has joined Sidley Austin as a counsel in the firm’s life sciences practice. She will be based in Shanghai, where she will focus her practice on corporate, commercial and regulatory aspects of life sciences matters.
Wang joins the firm from AstraZeneca, where she advised on strategic and operational initiatives to ensure statutory compliance and realisation of business objectives.
Scott Bass, head of Sidley’s global life sciences practice, said Wang has been “at the forefront of legal developments in Asia in the life sciences field.” Wang, who has degrees from Harvard Law School and National Taiwan University, previously worked for McKinsey & Company, a management consulting firm, advising clients in the pharmaceutical and technology industries across Greater China.
In January 2008, Sidley became a memorandum of understanding with the Shanghai Institute for Food and Drug Safety, allowing it to advise on projects relating to the drafting of new drug and device laws in China.
