Richard Baddeley joins Wrays as principal

Richard Baddeley has joined Wrays as a principal in the firm’s Perth engineering and technology group, where he provides advice on all aspects of intellectual property and has built an impressive track record acting for a range of clients from start-ups to large multinationals. His background in both chemical and mechanical engineering provides a platform to understand the technical merits of innovation across a wide range of fields including the energy, mining and automotive sectors.
Baddeley joined from Watermark IP, where he worked for more than 30 years. Prior to becoming a lawyer, he worked as a metallurgist.
“Richard is a valuable addition to the Wrays stable of expertise. He is a highly experienced IP specialist who is well-known for providing clients with tailored commercial advice,” says firm chair Gary Cox.
Baddeley’s appointment follows the recent arrival of Mary Turonek to the Wrays chemical, resources and oil and gas team.
His experience includes representing a multinational energy company’s patent and trademark interests in Australia for more than 20 years; completing numerous patent drafting, prosecution and opposition assignments in hydrocarbon exploration and production; extractive metallurgy including biohydrometallurgy, nickel, copper, uranium and gold hydrometallurgy; managing IP assignments in renewable energy and innovative agricultural methods; and pursuing patent, trademark and design strategies to promote the global interests of an overseas automotive manufacturer.
