The Intellectual Property Corporation of Malaysia (MyIPO) and TikTok have teamed to uphold and improve compliance with intellectual property laws in Malaysia, as both groups recently signed a memorandum of agreement (MoU).

In a joint statement, MyIPO and TikTok emphasized their goal to align the platform’s IP policy and enforcement with Malaysian IP laws. The partnership also focuses on training and sharing expertise and information on IP to the TikTok community, particularly among businesses actively involved in the TikTok Shop. This is a crucial component of the MoU as over a million merchants, 98 percent of whom are small and medium-sized businesses, are active on TikTok Shop in Malaysia.

Concurrently, TikTok unveiled the Intellectual Property Protection Center (IPPC), a specialized forum allowing IP rights owners to submit complaints directly to TikTok if they suspect a vendor on TikTok Shop is violating IP rights.

With this partnership, MyIPO and TikTok reaffirmed their dedication to ensuring Malaysia’s IP ecosystem runs smoothly and benefits all parties involved. The alliance aims to facilitate greater awareness and appreciation of IP rights, particularly for entrepreneurs operating on TikTok Shop.
