Turkey’s IP Experts 2025

In July 2024, Turkey’s president, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, unveiled a US$30 billion package filled with incentives designed to boost investment in advanced technology sectors. With the incentives, Erdogan pledged to bring Turkey to the global stage by attracting at least US$20 billion in private-sector investment.

“With value-added production, we increase our global competitiveness and strengthen our economic independence. We will continue supporting such critical technologies,” Erdogan said of the High Technology Incentive Programme. The government plans to make about US$750 million worth of investments available to small and medium enterprises involved in industrials and green technology. “As we apply our economic programme decisively, we continue taking the necessary steps to improve our investment climate,” he said at the time.

Turkey’s investment in technology predates Erdogan’s announcement, of course, and some of that investment has begun to pay dividends. In February 2025, Vestel, a Turkish multinational technology company owned by the Zorlu Group, became the first Turkish company to earn revenue from the licensing of standard-essential patents. Vestel earned revenue through the AVC licensing programme of Via Licensing Alliance (Via LA), in which it is listed as a patent holder. Vestel joined the licensing program after its SEP patents were reviewed and approved by an independent intellectual property (IP) firm designated by Via LA. Other global technology giants in the program include Dolby, Samsung, Apple, Google and LG.

“Participating in such a prestigious platform underscores the company’s contributions to technology and its commitment to research and development (R&D),” said Vestel CEO Ergün Güler. “Vestel’s strength in technology production stems from our global R&D efforts and the innovative vision of our team of 1,800 experts.”

Güler said that each year, the company invests invest 2 percent of its revenue in R&D to shape future technologies and deliver industry-leading solutions. “By becoming the first Turkish company to act as a licensor in the SEP program, we have demonstrated our leadership and innovation-driven approach worldwide,” he said.

At the same time, Turkey remains on the watch list of the United States Trade Representative (USTR) Special 301 Report for 2025. The USTR notes that over the last few years, Turkey has continued to focus on intellectual property enforcement by, and training of, Turkish Customs and the Turkish National Police against the trade in counterfeit goods, including counterfeit pharmaceuticals. However, it said, right holders continue to have concerns regarding overall IP protection and enforcement in Turkey.

“Despite its focus on enforcement activities against counterfeit goods, [Turkey] remains a significant source of, and transshipment point for, counterfeit and pirated goods

across sectors and is one of the world’s largest sources of counterfeit medicines and apparel,” the report said. “While [Turkey] has specialized IP courts in five major cities, stakeholders note that a lack of judicial expertise in IP and burdensome evidence requirements to obtain search warrants continue to hamper enforcement efforts.”

It is with this ongoing increase in the use of technology and in the rising profile of IP in Turkey that we turned to IP professionals in the region in order to understand better what clients need today. Asia IP asked a large number of professionals – mostly in-house counsel and corporate legal managers – what they were looking for from their legal service providers. From their answers, we have compiled our list of Turkey’s IP Experts, those lawyers who understand what their clients need and are able to provide them with the best practical advice.

It comes as no surprise that a handful of firms dominated the rankings: Gün + Partners placed six lawyers on our list. Deriş and NSN Law Firm each placed four lawyers, while Kenaroğlu Avukatlik Burosu and Moroğlu Arseven each placed three lawyers on the list.

Eight firms each placed two lawyers: Alfa Patent Stan Advoka, ATG Law Firm, Dericioglu & Eren, Invokat Intellectual Property Services, Istanbul Patent, Kodiak Law & IP Services, Simaj Patent & Trademark Attorneys and Yalçıner Patent.

Our survey includes only those lawyers working at law firms in Turkey. Most of the lawyers named to our list have multiple practice specialties. Many of them are litigators, while others concentrate on prosecution work or provide strategic advice.

All of them have something in common: they are Asia IP’s IP Experts for Turkey.

Turkey’s IP Experts is based solely on independent editorial research conducted by Asia IP. As part of this project, we turned to thousands of in-house counsel in Asia and around the world, and asked them to nominate private-practice lawyers, including foreign legal consultants, advisers and counsel.

The final list reflects the nominations received combined with the input of the editorial team at Asia IP, which has more than 50 years of collective experience in researching and understanding the legal market in Asia.

All private practice intellectual property lawyers working at law firms in Turkey were eligible for inclusion in the nomination process; there were no fees or any other requirements for inclusion in the process.

The names of our 50 IP Experts are published here. Each IP Expert was given the opportunity to include their biography and contact details in print and on our website, for which a fee was charged.
