Overview

Pravin Anand is a prominent intellectual property (IP) lawyer who has significantly strengthened India’s IP jurisprudence over his 45-year career, having appeared in more than 4,000 cases. He is the first Indian recipient of the AIPPI Award of Merit, INTA’s President’s Award, and an inductee in the IAM IP Hall of Fame. Recognized as the “Most Innovative Lawyer” for Asia Pacific by the Financial Times, he has earned the title of “IP Trailblazer” from leading industry bodies, including Managing IP and Legal 500.

His recent landmark cases include transformative patent lawsuits in the pharmaceutical sector, such as Merck v. Glenmark and Roche v. Cipla. He has also made strides in personality rights, exemplified by Anil Kapoor v. Simply Life India and Amitabh Bachchan v. Rajat Negi. Notably, he secured India’s first judgment on Product-by-Process patents in Vifor International v. MSN Labs and established the country’s first Anti-Anti suit injunction in InterDigital v. Xiaomi.

Beyond litigation, Mr. Anand is passionate about promoting IP awareness. He initiated the NK Anand Indian Science Competition and the Raj Anand Moot Court Competition, and created innovative educational tools like the IP board game "Anaryst" and the first IP-themed play, "Brainchild." He is also a leading advocate for Responsible AI.
