Overview

Dhruv Anand’s work covers a wide array of cases from complex patent cases to path-breaking matters for clients ranging from luxury brands to FMCG, pharma and life sciences. 

With a career spanning over 17 years, he has been involved in significant cases in media and entertainment space including the recent Amitabh personality rights cases of Amitabh Bachan, Anil Kapoor and Jackie Shroff. 

Anand played an instrumental part in protecting popular trademarks of films and shows such as Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashma and Aashiqui. He has appeared in landmark copyright cases such as the DU photocopy case, enforcing the moral rights of a famous sculptor, representing copyright societies and more lately involved in a dispute concerning singers rights to receive royalty. 

Anand has been instrumental in enforcing and upholding the patent rights of many pharmaceutical companies like Bayer, Merck, Pharmacyclics and Eisai, cases which have involved a wide spectrum of complex patent law principles. 

He played a key role in the recognition of the doctrine of spill over reputation in George V Records v. Kiran Jogani, in successfully obtaining well-known trademark declarations for leading brands, in enforcing IP in films and in successful campaigns for the Indian Singers Rights Association and well-known luxury brands. He has won big trademark disputes for a well-known Indian brand all the way up to the Supreme Court and has been involved in a case clarifying the Customs enforcement rules qua patents.
