The United Nations and ABBA lyricist Bjorn Ulvaeus recently launched an online platform to assist musicians in understanding their rights to intellectual property and obtaining adequate recognition in the digital era. Creators Learn Intellectual Property (CLIP) aims to teach artists how to ensure they are fairly compensated for their labour, particularly in light of the growing amount of online information nowadays.

Ulvaeus, the co-writer of several hit songs with Swedish musical group ABBA, partnered with the UN’s World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) to establish the Music Rights Awareness Foundation.

In a statement, he said: “I know firsthand how important it is for creators to know and manage their IP rights. Today, it is an essential foundation for a successful career in the music industry. At the core of CLIP is a steadfast commitment to creators. Helping them understand the complexities of the creative industries will enable them to maximize the value of their creations.”

The initial iteration of CLIP will be centred on the music business, assisting users in learning about the inner workings of the industry, comprehending the parties involved in releasing a song onto the market and grasping the rights of music creators.
