Balakrishnan started her career in molecular biology, completing her Masters of Science in genetics, and working at a Crown Research Institute in New Zealand that specializes in biotechnology research. She worked for more than three years as a trademark lawyer in New Zealand, and has worked for the past five years as a trademark attorney in Australia. Her practice involves advising clients on their options and strategies for obtaining Australian and New Zealand trademarks.
